เมื่อวันที่ 19 เมษายน 2568 สถานกงสุลใหญ่ ณ เมืองปีนัง ร่วมกับสำนักงานการท่องเที่ยวแห่งประเทศไทย ประจำกรุงกัวลาลัมเปอร์ จัดงานเทศกาลสงกรานต์ ณ เมืองปีนัง ประจำปี 2568 ณ Hin Bus Depot จอร์จทาวน์ รัฐปีนัง โดยมีนายพสุศิษฏ์ วงศ์สุรวัฒน์ กงสุลใหญ่ ณ เมืองปีนัง เป็นประธานในพิธีเปิด และได้รับเกียรติจาก YB Lim Hui Ying รัฐมนตรีช่วยว่าการกระทรวงการคลังมาเลเซีย เข้าร่วมและกล่าวเปิดงาน โดยมีผู้เข้าร่วมงานมากกว่า 1,000 คน อาทิ กงสุลกิตติมศักดิ์ฝรั่งเศส ประจำเมืองปีนัง เครือข่ายมิตรประเทศไทย (Friends of Thailand) ชุมชนชาวไทย นักศึกษาไทยในปีนัง และนักท่องเที่ยว เป็นต้น

    ในช่วงพิธีเปิด กงสุลใหญ่ฯ ได้กล่าวต้อนรับผู้เข้าร่วมงาน โดยได้กล่าวถึงวัตถุประสงค์ของการจัด  เทศกาลฯ เพื่อเฉลิมฉลองเทศกาลสงกรานต์และงานปีใหม่ไทยในรัฐปีนัง ซึ่งเป็นเทศกาลที่สนุกสนาน เนื่องจากมีการเล่นน้ำ โดยมีความหมายเพื่อชำระล้างสิ่งที่ไม่ดีและโชคร้ายให้ผ่านพ้นไป รวมถึงเป็นช่วงเวลาที่ครอบครัวจะได้ใช้เวลาอยู่ร่วมกัน และเป็นโอกาสในการไหว้ผู้ใหญ่ที่เคารพ และสรงน้ำพระเพื่อเป็นสิริมงคลแก่ชีวิต นอกจากนี้ เมื่อปี 2566 Unesco ประกาศให้เทศกาลสงกรานต์เป็นมรดกทางวัฒนธรรมที่จับต้องไม่ได้ของมนุษยชาติด้วย หลังจากการกล่าวต้อนรับของกงสุลใหญ่ฯ YB Lim Hui Ying ได้กล่าวเปิดงาน โดยได้เน้นย้ำลักษณะที่เป็นเอกลักษณ์ของรัฐปีนังในการเป็นสังคมพหุวัฒนธรรม ซึ่งให้ความสำคัญกับการอยู่ร่วมกันอย่างสันติและการให้ความเคารพต่อความหลากหลายทางวัฒนธรรม

     ภายในงานฯ ได้จัดให้มีการแสดงศิลปวัฒนธรรมไทยจากโรงเรียนพะตงวิทยามูลนิธิ ซึ่งเป็นโรงเรียนสำหรับเด็กด้อยโอกาส การออกร้านจำหน่ายอาหารและเครื่องดื่มของไทย การสาธิตการแกะสลักผัก/ผลไม้ การทำขนมลูกชุบ การจักสานใบตอง ซุ้มประชาสัมพันธ์การท่องเที่ยวไทย และการสอนภาษาไทย ซึ่งได้รับความสนใจผู้เข้าร่วมงานเป็นอย่างมาก นอกจากนี้ สถานกงสุลใหญ่ฯ ได้จัดพื้นที่สำหรับกิจกรรมเล่นน้ำสงกรานต์และจัดกรรมร่วมตอบคำถามเกี่ยวกับประเพณีสงกรานต์และประเทศไทยบนเวทีด้วย

     On 19 April 2025, The Royal Thai Consulate-General in Penang, in collaboration with the Office of Tourism Authority of Thailand in Kuala Lumpur, organised a Songkran Festival in Penang at Hin Bus Depot in Georgetown, Penang. In this event, H.E.Mr.Psusist Wongsurawat, Consul-General of Thailand in Penang and YB Lim Hui Ying, Deputy Minister of Finance of the Government of Malaysia, presided over the opening ceremony. The festival was attended by the Honorary Consul of France in Penang, Friends of Thailand, Thai Communities, Thai students in Penang and more than 1,000 visitors.

     During the opening ceremony, H.E.Mr.Psusist delivered a welcoming speech, stating the objective of the festival to celebrate Songkran and Thai New Year in Penang. Songkran is a joyful event due to the water splashing activity, which symbolises washing away of bad luck and misfortune. Songkran tradition is also a time of family reunion, an opportunity to pay respect to elders, and the pourning water on the buddha statue as a gesture of blessing for the year ahead. Furthermore, in 2023, UNESCO officially recognised Songkran in Thailand as an intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Thereafter, YB Lim Hui Ying gave an opening speech emphasising the unique identity of Penang as a multicultural society, which values the importance to peaceful coexistence and the respect of cultural diversity.

     In the event, there were cultural peformances by Phatong Wittaya Foundation School School, Thai food and baverages stalls, demonstration of Thao cuisine and craft, namely fruits/vegetables carving, Luk Chup or Thai dessert making, and banana leaf weaving, a Thai Tourism public relations booth, and a Thai language corner, the activities of which received lots of attentions from the participants. Additionally, the Royal Thai Consulate-General also set up an area for water-splashing activity and held a quiz competition about Songkran tradition and Thailand on stage.
